Hourly rate

I charge £30 per hour and do not charge for travel if local. And I am keen to only ever charge a fair rate for the job in hand; I will only charge what we agree to be reasonable, and I won't charge for my own learning/investigation time. Also, I won't charge if I have been unable to resolve your problem (no fix, no fee).

Example charges include:
  • Hard disk replacement – £70 (inc cost of disk)
  • Windows installation – £30 (or £60 if recovering your files and applications)
  • Virus removal – £30 – £60
  • LCD replacement – £80 (inc cost of lcd panel)
  • Memory upgrades – £60
  • Website creation – from £200
  • PC procurement – £30 (but I can save you £100 – £300 on a new Dell PC
Typically work will be carried out at your own premises, but sometimes it is easier for me to take a PC home and work on it there, particularly where unattended time is required (re-installing the operating system, for example). Unattended maintenance will not be charged for.

If I can resolve your problem by telephone or offer you useful advice then that will be without charge – please do give me call with any questions or problems you might have.

Hardware purchases If you would like me to purchase hardware on your behalf, then I pass these on at cost (including the supplier's handling/postage charge), though I may charge for my time if research of a product has been particularly time consuming. I do always search for the best price, typically from one of www.dabs.com, or www.scan.co.uk.  And I can purchase Dell PCs, typically at a discount of 20 – 30%.

Hosting services Similarly if you would like me to purchase domain name registration or hosting services, then I will pass these on at cost. However, if you would then like me to take care of the annual renewal of these, I will then charge one hour labour per renewal period (typically one or two years).
